Four-Sheet Ice Arena Approved as Premier Anchor for Proposed 258-Acre Maridel Master-Planned Community

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Transformative regional sports venue unites The Battery Hockey Academy, the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets, and central Ohio community leaders to advance youth athletic development and public recreation.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio — Following formal development approval from local government officials, Maridel Properties has announced plans for a state-of-the-art, four-sheet ice arena. The arena serves as the initial anchor and catalyst for Maridel, a proposed 258-acre master-planned, mixed-use community situated in the heart of Central Ohio between Marysville, Delaware, and northern Columbus. The project is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 42 and Sawmill Parkway.

The multi-rink facility represents a landmark public-private collaboration that brings together prominent regional sports and business figures, including 13-year NHL veteran and former Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Cam Atkinson, The Battery Hockey Academy and Ed Gingher of the nationally recognized Ohio AAA Blue Jackets program. Designed to serve as both an elite athletic training headquarters and a public community asset, the facility will accommodate youth hockey, tournament play, adult hockey, figure skating, and public skates.

The new four-sheet venue will immediately establish Central Ohio as a primary destination for regional and national youth hockey tournaments. Plans for the facility incorporate dedicated performance training spaces, team facilities, full-service hospitality and concessions.

“Maridel is conceived as more than just a destination—our intention is to create a place where opportunity, connection, and community come together,” said Bruce Daniels of Maridel Properties. “Sports and youth development are at the core of our philanthropic mission to give back to the communities that make Central Ohio unique. Bringing together leaders like Cam and Ed allows us to build the skills, character, and confidence that the next generation needs to thrive, both on and off the ice.”

The Maridel Vision

The ice arena marks the first project of Maridel’s wider 258-acre master plan. Positione along one of Ohio’s fastest-growing corridors, the proposed mixed-use development will integrate sports, entertainment, dining, retail, hospitality, and public gathering spaces designed to foster regional economic growth and connection. At the center of Maridel is an enduring philanthropic commitment to youth development and community enrichment. Additional architectural renderings, infrastructure plans, and commercial partnership announcements will be unveiled as phased site work begins. Members of the public, commercial prospective partners, and tournament organizers can review official project plans, architectural concepts, and ongoing development updates by visiting the newly launched community portal at maridel.com.
